Tovey Cres

Refreshing a traditional family cottage

This Tudor-style cottage found on Vancouver Island in Victoria, B.C. is my parent’s home and where I spent my childhood. This personal project also saw us take on the construction, and my wife and interior designer, Andrea Rodman, handled the interiors.

We worked on the front and back gardens, with the main focus being the rear patio and its panoramic bayside view of the Juan de Fuca strait and the Olympic mountains. We updated the patio with mortared flagstone, curving boxwood hedges, and potted plants. We also assembled and installed a new BBQ grill.

In the front, we updated and installed yew hedges, an entry pergola, and treillage for the existing Virginia Creeper vines. Previously home to only flowers and decorative plants, we also created an area for growing veggies with cedar boxes and concrete planters.
